Staying Healthy While Working at Home

Working at home can really be rewarding both financially and emotionally, provided that you know how to handle your time. Whether you manage your own online business or working as a virtual assistant or on other home based jobs, you will be faced with several stresses which may affect your health such as the following:

Lack of Exercise. If you happen to worked before in an office or corporate environment, activities like walking to the bus stop, driving your car, climbing the stairs instead of taking the lift, walking a few steps to get your lunch are just a few of your littler forms of exercises just to keep your muscles moving.

Lack of Sleep. Especially if most of your work has to do with online jobs. If you are not careful, you could sacrifice your health even if you work at home with all the comfortable environment and obvious idle time.

Bored. There will be days when you wish you have real friends to talk to or have short coffee breaks with. You can combat the boredom by calling a close friend or a loved one. Positive and cheerful chit chats keep you healthy and happy.

A whole lot of Distractions. You experience many distractions and irritations especially if you live with other relatives and with small children or that your neighbor plays music or watch TV at a volume higher than normal.

 
Despite the above pressures, here are a few things you can do to maintain and improve your health:

Cook Healthy Meals. As much as possible, avoid calling fast food chains and order food. The food they serve already has a lot of artificial ingredients and empty calories making you more sleepy and tired. Take the time to prepare your meals.

Healthy Snacking. Instead of snacking on chips and junk food, eat healthy alternatives for your munchies like seeds and nuts, tofu chips, low-calorie pizzas, fruits, cheese, bread and raw vegetables. Limit your snacks to once or twice a day. In excess of that is already bad for your health.

Thirty Minute Break. To avoid eyes, back and wrist strains, move out of your chair every 30 minutes. Having a break clears your mind, makes you more energetic and able to think clearly. Do a little stretching and walking. Get up and get your blood pumping. This way, you help yourself stay healthy and ward off obesity and other diseases accompanied by sedentary lifestyle.

Regardless of what your home based work is or how exhausting working at home turns out to be, changing your work habits and lifestyle one at a time will not only prepare you to handle bigger tasks, but it will also give you more personality for a life beyond your career. Never forget that all of the world’s wealth and freedom are meaningless if you do not have your health. So, as a virtual assistant, start improving life through your simple ways!
